New Delhi, Sept 3 (UNI) Police Commissioner K K Paul today transferred the case of the alleged chopping of the hair of a 25-year-old Sikh youth Harpreet Singh in Tilak Nagar area of West Delhi to the Crime Branch.

''The case has been transferred to the Crime Branch,'' said the police spokesman.

One person has been arrested in the case and search for the other accused in on, he added.

A police official told UNI that additional forces have been rushed in the area and the situation was under control.

''Security has been tightened after yesterday's protest in which about 2,500 people participated. Five companies of the RAF, CRPF and Delhi police have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident.'' Denying that any other arrests had been made, as alleged in some sections of the press, he said yesterday 14 of the demonstrators had been detained but were released in the evening.

''Only one person has been arrested so far.'' Meanwhile, about 40-odd men, women and children took out a protest march in Bhogal area of South Delhi this morning at about 0900 hrs demannding arrest of the accused.

They also raised slogans against the government and the police.

The Delhi Akali Dal, while distancing itself from the 'ruckus' being created by various sections, said they were not facilitating any protests.

''There is no protest from our side. This will unduly whip communal passions,'' said Omkar Singh Thapar of the Akali Dal.

Individuals may be participating in the protests but as an organisation we are not part of it, he added.

Harpreet Singh, hailing from Ludhiana and residing in Tilak Nagar's Mukhram Garden Extension area, had yesterday alleged in his home town that his hair had been cut by two intruders who barged into his residence.

DCP (West) Robin Hibu had yesterday denied that there was any such incident involving the cutting of the hair of a Sikh youth.

''It is a simple case of robbery in which about Rs 2,500 were robbed from Harpreet after two men entered his house at about 0230 hrs.'' May be some hair had come off accidently in the scuffle that ensued between them but there was nothing like chopping off his hair, he added.

Police also said the 'hair chopping' thing seems to be an after-thought as Harpreet while informing the PCR about the robbery at about 0300 hrs did not mention that his hair had been cut by the miscreants.

He told about this in his second call whicxh was made at about 15 minutes later, they added.
