Shelving of satellite city, victory for people: Jaya

Chennai, Sep 3 (UNI) The DMK government's decision to shelve the proposed Satellite township project was a victory for the people's power, Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa said.

In a statement here, she said before announcing any scheme the government should weigh the pros and cons. But the DMK government headed by M Karunanidhi had failed to follow this, she alleged.

She also alleged that only on September one, the Chief Minister said in the state assembly that he was prepared to face any opposition against the proejct. However, he had backtracked on it the next day.

Meanwhile, PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss welcomed Mr Karunanidhi's decision to drop the satellite city project and said the Chief Minister had shown his respect for democracy.

It may be recalled that Dr Ramadoss had urged the Chief Minister to withdraw the proposed project as it would displace thousands of families.
