NORTON, Massachusetts, Sept 2 (Reuters) Tiger Woods surrendered his lead in the second round of the Deutsche Bank Championship today after shooting a one-over par 72.

Briton Justin Rose climbed to the top of the leaderboard in the first six holes of his afternoon round, leaving him two under par for the day, and six-under for the tournament.

Englishman Rose forged ahead of the world number one by early afternoon, despite facing trickier conditions as the wind picked up.

Woods got off to a bad start. After sending his drive on the 443-yard 13th hole into the left rough, he pounded his driver on a cart path in frustration, sending up a shower of sparks.

That same club gave him trouble through the day. Woods missed seven fairways, occasionally needing to head out into the crowd to rescue his ball. The result left him three under par for the tournament, tied with four others for second after the morning field completed their rounds.

Sharing second were Americans Bob May and Joe Ogilvie, and Australians Aaron Baddeley and Nathan Green. May, Ogilvie and Green all had afternoon tee times.
