River Chenab crosses danger mark
Jammu, Sep 3 (UNI) The water level in Chenab river has crossed the danger mark at Akhnoor last evening, coinciding with the non-stop heavy rains in the Kashmir valley which resulted in the sounding of flood alert, officials said today.
The Chenab has crossed the danger mark of 35 ft in Akhnoor.
However, the water level of the river was recorded at 38 ft on Friday night while it came down to 36 ft, one feet above danger mark, on Saturday evening, chief engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control V K Abrol said.
He said, the Tawi river was flowing below the danger mark of 14 ft. Though its water level had gone upto 12.5 ft last night, it reduced to 9.5 ft this afternoon, he added.
''Army, police and civil administration have been alerted in the villages falling on the banks of river Chenab,'' he said.
