GSU to hold protest rally in Meghalaya and Asom
Shillong, Sep 3 (UNI) The Garo Students Union (GSU) will take out a rally tomorrow in all three districts of Garo Hills in Meghalaya, protesting against the assault on the Union's office bearer and closure of the GSU office in Tura, last week.
On Sunday last, GSU Assistant General Secretary Elijah K Marak was severely beaten up by miscreants in Tetengkol area of Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills.
The miscreants later went to the Union's head office and locked it and threatened the student leaders not to open it.
GSU President Andreas Sangma said the rally would also take place in every unit of Garo Hills region and Khasi Hills districts of Meghalaya and Garo dominated areas in Asom.
The union would submit a memorandum to state Home Minister Robert Garnett Lyngdoh through the respective Deputy Commissioners.
Earlier, the GSU in compliant lodged with the police accused a prominent Garo NGO, the Federation for A'chik Freedom (FAF) behind the incident.
Meanwhile, the DIG of Meghalaya police, Western Range Mr F D Sangma said one person has already surrendered to the police in this connection while the other two named in FIR are still at large.
