Hoshangabad, MP, Sep 3 (UNI) In what appears to be a scene straight from a potboiler, eleven-year-old Gabbar, who was believed to be dead, has returned and is fighting a legal battle to prove innocence of his parents, who are undergoing punishment for murdering him.

District and Sessions Court Judge Aradhna Choubey has directed for conducting DNA test to ascertain whether Gabbar is alive.

However, his parents had expressed doubt over the manner the sample was collected at the district hospital.

On the other hand, in a letter before the court, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Devandra Pal has agreed that Gabbar is indeed alive.

Hoshangabad Superintendent of Police Vedprakash Sharma has suspended Town Inspector D S Raghuvanshi and constable Bharat Nath yesterday for negligence in the matter.

Trouble started when Gabbar, who sold groundnuts in train, was caught by Maharashtra's Bhusawal police for travelling without ticket and illegal vending in train on February 10. He was sent to child detention centre in Jalgoan and was brought to juvenile detention centre in Bhopal in May .

Meanwhile, Gabbar's parents, who were unaware of the whole matter, lodged a missing complaint. During investigation, police recovered a dead body from railway line on March 20 and identified him as Gabbar.

It was alleged that Gabbar's father, Ramesh Yadav, who was a drunk, bashed Gabbar until he fainted and placed him over a railway crossing. Ramesh received support from his wife, Neelu, in this matter.

Police recovered stick and belt from the spot as proof. Ramesh and Neelu were arrested on July 11 and presented before court, which sent them to jail.

A twist to the tale came when Bhopal's juvenile home employee went to Hoshangabad and informed Gabbar's uncle Poonam Yadav about Gabbar. Poonam was surprised to find Gabbar safe.

On learning about his parents being sent to jail on murder charge, Gabbar appeared before court on July 24 and appealed to release his parents.

The court took DNA sample of parents and released them on August 31 on bail of Rs 15,000 each. At present, Gabbar is staying with his parent.

Ramesh has alleged that police would harass him in the case.

However, the SP assured to provide security to the family.
