Countrywide 243 polio cases till Aug 06:Report

Kishanganj, Bihar, Sep 3 (UNI) In all 243 polio cases have been dectected from 39 districts across the country till August this year, according to latest reports.

Altogether 66 cases of polio were detected during 2005, a climb down from 134 cases that were detected in 2004. The total number of polio cases detected in 2003 was 225.

The highest number of cases were reported from Uttar Pradesh at 223, while Bihar recorded 15 cases of the debilitating disease.

Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttaranchal, Haryana and Maharashtra reported one case each.

Pulse polio campaigners held a meeting of District Task Force here on Friday. No case was reported from the district.

The district wise incidence of polio in Bihar is -- Patna and East Champaran districts, four cases each, Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga districts, two cases each and West Champaran, Sheohar and Purnea, one case each, according to Surveillance Medical Officer of World Health Organisation.
