Bangalore, Sep 3 (UNI) Congress leaders of all ranks vied with each other to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi and discussed ways and means to resurrect the party to its glorious past here today.

Ms Gandhi, who was in the city to attend a massive rally organised to mark the merger of AIPJD with the Congress, stopped at the Kumara Krupa guest house for lunch.

Matters like how to steady the party's innings in the State after its poor performance in the 2004 Assembly elections, how to overcome the adversities that followed the fall of the Dharam Singh-led Congress-JD(S) coalition Government seven months ago and various other matters were discussed, party sources said.

The first ones to get an opportunity to interact with their party supremo was KPCC chief Mallikarjun Kharge, former Chief Minister N Dharam Singh and AICC General Secretary incharge of the State A K Antony.

Later, office bearers of various party wings like Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, Backward Classes and Minority cells met Ms Gandhi.

A delegation of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, a federation of Kannada organisations, also met Ms Gandhi to urge her to prevail upon the Union Government not to act detrimental to the interests of Karnataka in the border row with Maharashtra.

Interestingly, a delegation of leaders belonging to Information Technology and Bio-Technology sectors also met her.
