Centre to set up Maritime University near Chennai

Chennai, Sep 3 (UNI) The Union Government will set up an Indian Maritime University at Chemmacherry, near here, Union Shipping Minister T R Baalu said today.

Inaugurating the Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign here, he said a legislative proposal in this regard would be placed before the Cabinet for its approval next week.

A National Maritime Complex would also come up on a 400 acre plot for promoting maritime studies.

He said the Government would bring in a legislation in Parliament to declare the Buckingham Canal waterway from Kakinada to Chennai and flowing to Pondicherry, as a national waterway.
