Women have high management skills : Kiran Bedi

Hyderabad, Sep 2 (UNI) Celebrated policewoman Kiran Bedi today said qualified women were performing well as managers in the corporate world since economic liberalisation was taking place in all sectors of the country.

Speaking at a programme organised by the State FICCI ladies Organisation here, Ms Bedi, currenty the Director General, Bureau of police research and Development in the Union Home Ministry, said the corporate world had changed its policy, looked for qualified women who had new ideas for achieving the goals that would be set by the business firms.

She pointed out that the traditional working style of males was outdated and it was imminent that women would acquire transformational leadership quality' and be multi-taskers in time management.

She said women should also have reliable counselling to cross the barriers that restricted them to achieve their goals.

Calling upon women organisations to conduct camps on the Right To Information (RTI) Act to create awareness among rural women, she said that educated women should also know the information, whatever they required, by utilizing the Act.

Stating that reservation for women in legislative bodies was a political neccessity, Ms Bedi said 'we need to bring this opportunity for women at early stage rather than late'.

She said women should also express their views and give suggestions on a draft bill for the police Act, which was put on the internet. The government was taking steps to re-write the Police Act adopted in 1861, to make cops sensitive and more responsible.
