'Visalandra' to uphold Telugu culture, Indian pluralism
Visakhapatnam, Sep 2 (UNI) Launching the fourth edition of 'Visalandra' the CPI mouthpiece in Telugu, party General Secretary A B Bardan said the paper would continue to stand for the poor, workers and peasants besides upholding the Telugu culture and plurality of India.
Addressing the CPI general body meeting here last night, he said outside support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was to ward off communal forces from coming into power. 'The Congress-led UPA would crumble under its own weight if it continues to ignore the interests of the working class and commonman'', he warned.
Expressing concern over the growing cases of farmers' suicide, he said after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Vidharbha 175 farmers had ended their life.
Relief packages worth Rs 700 crore as interest waiver would not be a consolation for the ryots as the principal amount still remained, he said and added that the import of cotton was also affecting farmers.
Citing the conflict in Vietnam and other countries against imperialism, he said Communist journals would also stand unitedly with those who fought against the hegemony of a few.
Union Minister of State for Mines T Subbirami Reddy wanted 'Visalandra' to remove its tag as a Communist paper for better reach.
