Tripura prepares to face oil strike crisis

Agartala, Sep 2 (UNI) The Tripura government has taken up a number of measures to tackle the crisis arising out of the proposed indefinite strike in the oil fields throughout the country from September 5.

The state government has urged the Centre to adopt certain measures to resolve the impasse as the country would face a crisis due to the strike.

Food and Civil Supply Minister Gopal Das told newsmen last night that the state had petroleum stocks for about 20 to 25 days.

The Centre had also instructed the state government to initiate steps to face the situation by imposing Essential Services Maintenance Act against the striking workers.

Since there were no oil fields or oil producing centres in the state, the Centre should solve the problem, the minister proposed.

The state government had instructed all the petrol pumps in the state to stock the products from Dharmanagar Depot in North District to meet the demands of the state during possible crisis.

The minister also expressed the hope that the problem would be solved amicably before September 5.
