Rly Minister all ears to commuters woes
Chennai, Sep 2 (UNI) Minister of State for Railways R Velu today travelled with the commuters in the elevated MRTS section and gave a patient hearing to their grievances.
He conducted inspections at MRTS stations of Triplicane, Light House and Thirumayilai.
Following complaints about the poor maintenance of the MRTS rail stretch, encroachments and anti-social elements occupying it at night, he instructed the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway police personnel to eliminate the anti-socials.
He stopped a train at Triplicane and heard the grievances of the public. Most of them complained about the delay in running of the trains and also demanded additional services in the Mylapore-Thiruvanmaiyur sector.
Mr Velu also announced opening of an additional reservation counter at Mylapore station to end the long wait in queues.
Stating that work on the Thiruvanmaiyur-Velachery stretch would be completed by December, he said tenders for the Velachery-St Thomas Mount section at a cost of Rs 416 crore had been called and the project would be completed in two years.
Mr Velu said he would also hold talks with Tamil Nadu Transport Minister to provide bus services to all the MRTS stations for the benefit of passengers.
