Rajasthan fear more floods as Kashmir goes on flood alert
New Delhi, Sep 2 (UNI) Incessant rains contined to pound Jhalawar and Kota districts of Rajasthan with authorities in Srinagar sounding a flood alert in the entire Kashmir valley after the water level of the Jhelum crossed the danger mark today.
Three hundred people trapped in a temple in Chapiheda village of Rajasthan were being shifted to safer places by police and RAC jawans.
Six labourers, who went to the river to pick up stones, were rescued by the authorities in Pali district. The situation has eased in Banswara, Dungarpur and Udaipur districts as downpours has ceased. Relief work was still on at the border district of Barmer.
Meanwhile, a nine-member team from the Centre will tour the flood-affected regions of the state tomorrow to assess the losses.
Relief and Disaster Management secretary, R K Meena said five members of the Central team will reach Udaipur from Delhi tomorrow.
Three members will assess the losses in Udaipur, Banswara and Dungarpur and two others would visit Sirohi, Pali and Jalore districts.
Four members would do an aerial survey of Barmer and would later divide into two groups to tour Jaisalmer and Barmer, he said.
The team members would complete its survey in two days and deliberate with the state chief secretary over the issue.
Mr Meena said the relief work was being done on war-footing in Barmer and draining out flood waters have begun from the worst affected Malwa and Kawas villages.
In Srinagar, lightning struck a village early this morning killing at least 40 cattle as the people were herding them to a particular place.
