Police recover Sree Narayana Guru idol, arrests 2

Pathanamthitta, Sep 2: Police recovered the ''Panchaloha'' idol of Sree Narayana Guru stolen from the SNDP Guru Mandiram at Chennamkuzhy near Pullad from Gudalur in Tamil Nadu and arrested two persons in this connection.

Police said yesterday the idol weighed 96 kg and valued Rs 2.25 lakh, was stolen on Monday last.

A police team led by Pathanamthitta Narcotic Cell Deputy Superintendent Baby Charles arrested the two culprits.

A five-member gang, who were habitual offenders was behind the theft, police said the gang hatched the plan to steal the idol when they were together in a cell at the Pathanamthitta sub-jail.

The arrested were Ajesh alias Aji (26) of Kummnnoor Konni and Prabhu (36) of Gudalur.

A search was on for three other culprits hailing from Mavelikara, Kumali and Konni, in connection with the theft, police said.
