NCW seeks Govt help against website offering sex determination

New Delhi, Sep 2 (UNI) The National Commission for Women (NCW) has asked the Government to take action against a US-based website which is offering sex determination test through the internet in India.

''We have written to the Health and the Information Ministries about this website and sought action. Since this is beyond the jurisdiction of the Commission we can only seek the government's intervention,'' NCW chairperson Girija Vyas told a news conference.

The Commission has so far not received the response from the Ministries.

She said an NGO had brought to the Commission's notice the website www.pregnancystore.com and sought action against it.

Ms Vyas said it was a very disturbing trend and should be checked.

''Technological advances are being used for illegal abortions.

It is an issue of concern and we need to check this trend,'' she added.
