Muley beats Telang to claim district-ranking TT tourney title

Pune, Sept 2 (UNI) Third-seed Upendra Muley today beat fourth-seed Amit Telang 11-8, 11-3, 7-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9 and proved the pundits wrong by bagging the men's title in the Le Meridien Trophy District Ranking Table Tennis championship, which was organised in the Deccan Gymkhana Club's ultra modern hall here.

In the women's category, number one-seed Dipti Chaphekar claimed the women's crown by downing unseeded Priyanka Joshi 11-7, 11-6, 11-13, 6-11, 11-3, 11-6.

However, it was promising under-14 Raunak Apte who hogged the concluding day's limelight by winning triple crown. The number one seed did it by trouncing fourth seed Saurabh Athavale 11-13, 10-12, 11-9, 13-11, 11-3, 11-5 in a keenly fought final. It was indeed highly creditable that an under-14 lad could raise his game to such a height to win the boys under-20 Youth singles crown.

Le Meridien Human Resouce Development Manager Nitin Jadhav was the guest of honour, who gave away the prizes. Some prizes were given away by the Deccan Gymkhana general secretary Vishwash Lokare and the Maharashtra State Table Tennis Association general secretary Prakash Tulpule.
