Jugal, Aishwarya emerge champions

Chennai, Sep 2 (UNI) Top seed Jugal Marfatia clinched the boy's Under-14 singles title, dashing the hopes of local lad Mohit Mayur in three sets in the IOB-GNC Asian Juniors tennis championships here today.

In a nearly 90-minute final at the hard courts of Gandhinagar Club, Marfatia dropped the first set 2-6, but came back well to win the next two 6-1, 6-4, to bag the title.

In the girls under-14 final, 13-year-old Aishwarya Agrawal of Indore defeated Sharon Paul 6-0, 6-3 to bag the crown.

It was the pint-sized Mohit Mayur who held the whip with an array of shots that unsettled the top seed.

However, Jugal was not seemingly perturbed about the the first set reverse as he came back strongly taking a 2-0 lead in the second set, up by a break in the second game.

Mohit Mayur showed signs of recovery breaking Jugal in the third to reduce the leeway to 1-2, when the top seed hit a pair or forehand shots wide. However, Jugal stepped on the pedal and won the next four games in a row to win the second set.

It was touch and go in the decider. Jugal led 3-1 with a break in the third, before losing serve in the sixth and allowed Mohit to dreaw level 3-3. Both traded breaks in the next two before Jugal got the decisive break in the ninth for a 5-4 lead and served out the match.

Results (Finals): Girls Singles: Aishwarya Agrawal bt Sharon.S.Paul 6-0, 6-3; Boy's singles : Jugal Marfatia bt Mohit Mayur 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Doubles: Girls: Shweta Rana/Ankita Raina bt Aishwarya Agrawal/Natalia Khanejo 6-2,6-3.

Boys:Jugal Marfatia/Sumeet Shinde bt N Sai Karthik/S Sidharth 6-2, 6-1.
