Bellary farmers cut canal bund to draw water to their fields

Bellary, Sep 2 (UNI) Two persons had been detained by the police for for breaching the bunds of a canal and diverting water to their fields in the Tungabhadra reservoir anecut, near Kaggallu village in Siraguppa taluk, about 60 km from here today.

Officials of Irrigation Task Force, consisting of both police and irrigation department officials, said during the early hours today they found some people breaking the canal bund to divert water to their fields and also nearby Hagari river. Such incidents had also come to light earlier during this month.

One of the arrested confessed that he along with others was breached the canal at 84th km of the 800 km long low level canal near Sindhgeri on August 19.

Superintendent of Engineer Yellareddy visited the spot and said steps would be taken to stop such illegal drawing of water from canal.
