Army takes Kashmiri children to Dehradun

Srinagar, Sep 2 (UNI) In its untiring efforts to bring peace in the Kashmir valley, the Army has organised a ten-day educational tour of 40 children from remote villages in Kashmir to Delhi and Dehradun.

A defence spokesman said today that 5 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) has organised the ten-day tour for the children hailing from remote villages of the Kashmir valley to Delhi and Dehradun from yesterday.

The children included 20 boys and 11 girls in the age group of 14-19 years. The aim of this tour was to expose these fertile minds of the Valley to the colour of development and the fragrance of liberty, he added.

The children would have a brief halt in Delhi to visit various places of historical interest. The group would then proceed to Dehradun to stay in Indian Military Academy (IMA) for four days.

During their stay in the Academy, the children would be able to closely observe every facet of training imparted to future officers of the Indian Army, the spokesman added.

He said their stay at the IMA would channelise their energies in the right direction and motivate them to join the armed forces as Officers. Interaction of the group with various dignitaries in Delhi and Dehradun have also been planned as a part of the tour.

The spokesman said the group would also perform in front of elite audience at the IMA, showcasing Kashmiri culture in the form of a colourful programme. A campfire would be organised for the children by the Gentlemen Cadets of the Academy, he added.

The spokesman said an opportunity to these young minds to visit the national capital and then experience the physical energy of the premiere Army Training establishment from close quarters would surely go a long way in motivating them to follow the right path.
