ADB aid for MP urban water supply project

Bhopal, Sep 2 (UNI) Implementation of the Asian Development Bank-aided Rs 1366 crore urban water supply and environment improvement project has started in Madhya Pradesh.

The project covering Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore and Jabalpur cities will be completed by 2009.

The ADB will provide Rs 900 crore, of which 70 percent will be received by the state government as loan through Government of India and 30 percent will be received as subsidy towards the project.

UN Habitat will provide Rs 2.50 crore, the state government will contribute Rs 228 crore, while the share of the related urban bodies will be Rs 236 crore, official sources said.

Under the project, water supply arrangement, environmental infrastructure and services like sewage disposal system, sewage treatment plant, rain water disposal system, solid waste management and works related to community development will be taken up.

Of the total Rs 1366 crore project, Rs 188 crore has been earmarked for Bhopal, Rs 219 crore for Gwalior, Rs 685 crore for Indore and Rs 274 crore for Jabalpur.
