Woman allegedly ostracised for being a witch

Krishnagar, Sep 1 (UNI) A 65-year-old woman has lodged an FIR against her neighbours for torturing and ostracising her on suspicion of being a witch.

Haridasi Sadar of Sadarpara village was assaulted before being ostracised from the village last evening. The incident occurred under Ranaghat police station area of Nadia district.

The villagers told UNI that they had seen Haridasi eating raw flesh of several cattle and poultry besides sucking blood.

However, Haridasi's daughter-in-law Kabita alleged that it was a conspiracy of the villagers against the family as she had never seen Haridasi behave irrationally.

Nadia Sub-Divisional Officer Mesboul Haque said he had visited the village and was shocked to find that blind beliefs still prevailed However, Mr Haque had sent a police team to conduct a probe.
