Travelling to Delhi on AC bus to cost less

Lucknow, Sep 1 (UNI) In a bid to corner its share during the festive season, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to reduce fares of air conditioned 'Shatabdi' buses plying between various important destinations, including Delhi and Dehra Dun.

State transport minister Naresh Aggarwal said here the reduction in fares would be applicable till December 31, 2006.

''By providing a 20 per cent reduction, we have ensured the bus fares are lower than Railways' fares,'' he said.

From tomorrow onwards, travelling to Delhi in an AC sleeper bus could cost Rs 484 as compared to Rs 604 being charged by Railways on the same route for AC 3 tier. So far, the AC sleeper bus fare was Rs 600, only Rs four less than AC 3 tier.

Similarly, travelling to Dehra Dun from the national capital on a UP Roadways AC Shatabdi bus would cost Rs 208, as compared to Rs 266 earlier. The Delhi-Meerut Shatabadi bus fare has been pegged at Rs 56 as compared to Rs 72 so far.

''We have also streamlined the time-tables to ensure passengers do not have to wait for the next bus for longer periods,'' the minister added.
