Tirupati Rly stn chosen for modernisation: Velu

Tirupati, Sep 1 (UNI) Minister of State for Railways R Velu said the temple town of Tirupati was among the 75 centres in the country identified for development as a modern station.

Mr Velu, who came here after inaugurating the Gudur-Tirupati fast passenger at Gudur yesterday, showed a model of the modernised Tirupati Railway station layout, while talking to mediapersons here.

About Rs nine crore had been spent for development works, including passenger amenities, civil works for extension of pit line and construction of a new Road Under Bridge(RUB) and other works in Tirupati.

The development works were expected to be completed in 18 months, he said adding that an additional Rs 2.49 crore had been sanctioned for installing new signboards, additional rooms and other facilities at the station.

Aiming to provide better amenities to passengers, the minister said Rs 1.95 crore more was sanctioned for Tirupati Railway Station for a washable apron on platforms to help an easy disposal of waste.

Later, Mr Velu offered worship to Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala.
