Steps taken to collect tax arrears in Commercial Tax dept
Pondicherry, Sep 1 (UNI) The Pondicherry administration is taking steps to collect the pending tax arrears in the commercial tax department, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the Assembly today.
Replying to a question, Mr Rangasamy said that government earned a revenue of Rs 304.22 crore through the commercial tax department during 2005-06. However, the entire tax was not collected and as on April one this year, Rs 8.55 crore tax was to be collected.
Replying to another question, Mr Rangasamy said the administration would continue to pressurise the Centre to get the due share of Cauvery water for Karaikal region.
As per the tribunal agreement, Karaikal should get six tmcft of water. However, as on August 15 this year, the region had rceived only 2.30 tmcft of water, he added.
Answering another question the Chief Minister said the administration proposed to set up its own Public Sservice Commission soon.
