Snow in higher reaches, widespread rains in other areas of HP
Shimla, Sep 1 (UNI) An extended monsoon brought mild snowfall in high altitude areas of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh and widespread rains in almost all mid and lower hills of the state during the last 24 hours, the met office today said.
The Manimahesh lake in Chamba district was frozen after the region experienced another mild snowfall last night, while the lower areas of the district were receiving rainfall since last night, plummeting day and night temperatures.
Almost all places in the state had received light to moderate rains since last night, but no loss of life and property was reported from anywhere in the state during the last 24 hrs, the met and official sources said.
Nadaun in Hamirpur and Ghamroor in Kangra district were the wettest places in the state with both recording 28.6 mm of rain, followed by 26 mm at Jogindernagar in Mandi district and 25 mm at Kahu in Bilaspur district till 0830 hrs.
It said Bhang Manali received 23 mm of rains, while Dhundi and Solang Nullah (all in Kullu district) received 21.8 and 22.6 mm of rain respectively during the last 24 hrs.
Bangana in Una district had also recorded 22 mm of rains, while Shimla received about eight mm of rain, the met office said, adding that Kalpa in Kinnuar and Patsio in Lahaul-Spiti had also recorded 2.3 mm and 4.4 mm of rain respectively.
Rains also lashed Shimla and its adjoining areas this afternoon after the sun played hide and seek in the morning, while dense fog engulfed the town.
Dharamshala in Kangra district has so far recorded 2,193.4 mm of rainfall from June one to till date, followed by 1,604.1 mm at Palampur and 1,225.5 mm at Jogindernagar.
Shimla recorded a night temperature of 15.2 degrees, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded minimum temperatures of 20 and 17.6 degree Celsius respectively, the met office added.
