Snow in higher reaches in HP
Chandigarh, Sep 1 (UNI) Higher reaches in Himachal Pradesh experienced snowfall while monsoon rains lashed many areas of the hilly state, Punjab, Haryana during the past 24 hours.
High altitude areas in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh had snowfall last night even as monsoon remained active causing widespread rains and bringing a considerable fall in the temperature in the state.
Ghamroor in Kangra district was the wettest place in the state, recording 28.6 mm downpour ovenight, followed by Nadaun in Hamirpur district measuring 28.5 mm, Kahu in Bilaspur district 25.0 mm, Bhang-Manali 23.0 mm, Solang Nullah 22.6 mm, Dhundi 21.8 mm and Sujanpur Tira 18.0 mm.
Some other areas, including, Sundernagar, Rampur, Bhuntar, Suni, Kassol and Bharthin also experienced rainfall.
Rains also lashed Shimla and its adjoining areas last night with the town receiving 8.0 mm rainfall till 0830 hours. The capital town was again lashed by rain this afternoon after the sun gave way to clouds. A dense fog engulfed the town, forcing vehicular traffic to move with headlights on.
Moderate rain pounded several areas in Punjab with Balachour turning the wettest place recording 31.2 mm rainfall overnight.
Nangal Dam site registered 10.4 mm, Ludhiana 8.4 mm and Amritsar and Patiala 0.6 mm each rain.
Many areas in Haryana also experienced moderate rain. Hissar recorded 12.9 mm, Karnal 5.0 mm and Ambala 0.3 mm downpour till this morning.
The Met office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at most places in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours. It warned of heavy to very heavy rains at few places in the region during the next 48 hours.
