Sensex opens marginally up at 11,699.57 points

Mumbai, Sept 1 (UNI) Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive index (Sensex) today opened marginally up at 11,699.57 points from the previous close of 11,699.03 points in the wake of end of August derivatives contracts on a successful note, lifting the sentiment on the bourses once again.

Currently, the Sensex is trading at 11,708 points, which is nine points higher than the previous close.

The Asian indices are not so strong today and may affect the domestic bourses as the weekend would come to an end.

Amongst the sectoral indices on BSE, there were few losers in the opening move. FMCG was down by 0.38 per cent, Bankex was down by 0.15 per cent, Teck was down by 0.14 per cent, whereas IT was down by 0.09 per cent.

However, the gainers pack was led by Metals, which was up by 0.65 per cent and was followed by Consumer Durables, up by 0.62 per cent, whereas Capital Goods and HC were up by 0.37 per cent each.

Amongst the Dollex indices, 30, 100 and 200 all were up by 0.02, 0.04 and 0.07 per cent each.

Major gainers on the BSE-30 Sensex were Cipla, Gujarat Ambuja Cement, Reliance Energy, Tata Motors, Maruti Udyog, HLL, ACC, Tata Steel, HDFC Bank and Hindalco, all up between 0.58 per cent and 1.88 per cent.

Among the losers were Hero Honda, ITC, TCS, Wipro, HDFC, Dr Reddy's Lab, Infosys, BHEL and SBI, all down by 0.11 per cent and 1.16 per cent.
