Saina Nehwal jumps to career-high world ranking

New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) Saina Nehwal scaled a new high in her fledgling career and her pre-quarterfinal appearance in the Korean Open ensured her jump to best ever ranking of 41st in the latest world badminton rankings.

The Hyderabadi teenager gained 10 places from her pevious 51st position getting one place better than her historic high of 42nd which she had occupied after winning Philippine's Open title to become the first Indian women to win a Grand Prix event.

Compatriot Aditi Mutatkar also made a remarkable upward move to 132nd from previous 172nd though all other women shuttlers lost places in the rankings calculated upto the Korean Open, according to information received here today.

Trupti Murgunde (80th), Jwala Gutta (158th), B R Meenakshi (209th) and Sayali Gokhale (212nd) all slipped down the ladder.

Among men, only P Kashyap gained in rankings from 99th to 96th, while Chetan Anad slipped five places, but still remained the highest ranking Indian man, at 27th. Anup Sridhar lost three places to finish at 36th and Arvind Bhat (49th) retains his previous week's place.
