SAD criticises demolition action on Gurudwara in Majnu Ka Tila

New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal General secretary and deputy leader of the Opposition in the MCD Onkar Singh Thapar today criticised the demolition action on a Gurudwara at Majnu Ka Tila.

In a statement issued here, Mr Thapar, condemning the demolition by a demolition squad of the DDA, accompanied by hundreds of policemen, said they would not allow bulldozers to run on historical Gurudwaras and ancient temples.

''It is a sin to demolish Gurudwaras and temples like the one at Majnu Ka Tila which are historical. Our Gurus had founded these Gurudwaras and given them a holy recognition,''Mr Thapar said.

''No incident can be so shameful as today's incident in which the police force lathicharged and teargased to disperse agitating Sikhs ann also fired in the air. The State Government and the Centre should come forward to ensure security of ancient temples, historical gurudwaras and schools providing education to children,'' he said.
