Rail blockade in North 24 Parganas, trains disrupted

Barrackpore, Sept 1 (UNI) A group people today raised blockade on the railway tracks here disrupting train movements for two hours causing troubles to thousands of commuters.

People were stranded in the Sealdah Ranaghat section of Eastern railways due to the blockade.

The agitators demanded removal of a signal post near the Titagarh North cabin from the track side, which had reportedly become a death trap for the passengers, and a young passenger fell on the track this morning and died.

The protestors also expressed their resentment against the GRP who did not remove the body from the track quickly.

The GRP, however, refuted the charge saying that they lifted the body in time.

On the other hand, members of the CPI(M) today observed protest day by creating a human chain at different places in the North 24 Parganas.

National Highways in Barasat, Barrackpore Trunk Road and other roads were virtually blocked causing traffic snarl at various points.
