Chennai, Sep 1 (UNI) Claiming that Sri Lanka was receiving arms assistance from Pakistan, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko tonight urged the Indian goverment to prevent entry of Pakistan ships, laden with weapons, into Sri Lanka.

Addressing a rally for the protection of Eelam Tamils, he said the Pakistani arms arebeing transported by ships and would be used against innocent Tamils.

''Pakistan's ISI has a base in Lanka'', he said and alleged that the Sri lanka government has been getting arms from that country for use against the Tamils.

Asserting that a Separate Tamil Eelam was the only solution, the firebrand MDMK leader, a staunch supporter of the banned LTTE, said if a solution had to be arrived through talks, then Sri Lanka should disarm its military troops and commence peace talks through Norway.

''Negotiations are not a solution. Peace talks are not an end in itself. It is only a means to find an end'', he said and added that a permanent solution had to be decided only by the Sri Lankan Tamils.

''No solution should be imposed on them'', he said and urged the Centre not to provide any type of assistance to the Lankan government.

At a time when the Eelam Tamils are going through a critical phase, any type of assistance would only lead to a disaster.

Mr Vaiko reiterated that providing moral support to the LTTE, which is fighting for the rights of tamils, was nothing wrong.

During his meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan singh on the issue, Mr Vaiko told him to have a meeting with the Sri Lankan Tamil MPs elected by the Tamils to understand the real position.
