Other fees issue in pvt medical colleges settled: Rangasamy

Pondicherry, Sep 1 (UNI) The Pondicherry administration has amicably settled the issue of 'other fees' collected by the private medical colleges here, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the legislative Assembly today.

Making a suo motu statement in the House, Mr Rangasamy said while the administration was providing 100 per cent tution fees, there were complaints of colleges collecting exhorbitant amount as 'other fees.' He said the Chairman of the fees committee had a meeting with the management of the private medical colleges, in which it was decided that the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute here would collect Rs 40,000, PIMS Rs 53,000 and Manakkula Vinayagar Medical College Rs 35,000 per annum.

The Chief Minister said the students would have to pay the amount for the year and in the subsequent years it would further come down. The college management had also agreed to reimburse the excess amount collected from the students, he added.

Mr Rangasamy announced enhancement in the financial assistance provided to the physically-challenged persons. For 100 per cent disability, the assistance per month was enhanced to Rs 1,500 from Rs 1,250, for 75 to 99 per cent disability Rs 1,250 would be given instead of Rs 1,000 and others would get Rs 1,000 instead of Rs 750.

He also announced promotion of ten associated professors of the Pandit Jawharlal Nehru Agricultural College, Karaikal, and 32 Pondicherry Civil Service Officers in the House today.
