Mizoram airport to get a tech savvy look
Aizawl, Sep 01 (UNI) Mizoram government has taken initiative to modernise and upgrade the state's lone airport Lengpui.
Officer on special duty of state's civil aviation wing Joe Lalhmingliana told newsmen today that since the airport is surrounded by hills it is necessary to install a modified Instrument Landing System (ILS) to avoid the frequent flight cancellation due to poor visibility.
Besides, Airport Authority of India (AAI) would install a Digital Current Weather Information System (DCWIS) to check visibility instead of the current manual system, Mr Lalhmingliana added.
Mr Lalhmingliana also said plans are in the pipeline to construct an Isolation Parking Bay to be used in case of plane hijacks.
Apart from this, two Fire Crush Tenders have been imported from Czechoslovakia that could get to a flaming aeroplane within three minutes anywhere within the airport, he said.
North Eastern Council (NEC) had sanctioned Rs 6.58 crores for various other upgradation programs, like extending the fire station, constructing a perimeter road around the airport and a waiting shed outside the terminal building, he informed.
