Minority Commission Chairman favours modern education in Madrasas
Bangalore, Sep 1 (UNI) Chairman of the National Minority Commission for Education Justice M S A Siddiqi today favoured introduction of modern education in the Madrasas and State extending support to promote these traditional institutions.
Addressing newsmen here after a two-day interaction meeting with various Minority Educational Institutions in Karnataka, he said that inculcating the modern education into Madrasas was good in the interest of the nation.
Justice Siddiqi said that during his interaction complaints about problems faced in getting minority status certificates, introduction of language policy in primary school levels and recruitment of staff in minority institutions were received.
Stating that he has sought clarification from the state officials about the issues raised during the interaction, Justice Siddiqi expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the Karnataka Government in safeguarding the educational rights of the minorities guaranteed under the Constitution.
Karnataka Minister for Labour and Minorities Welfare Iqbal Ansari, who was also present, appealed to the Commission to prevail upon the Union Government to release special grant for the benefit of the students belonging to Minority Community.
Stating that the State government has taken several initiatives to improve the literacy rate among the minorities, he sought greater support from the Centre to support the Madrasas.
Mr Ansari stressed the need to start Urdu Anganawadi Centers in the State.
