Maruti registers 15.68 pc growth in August sales
Mumbai, Sept 1 (UNI) Maruti Udyog Ltd has posted a 15.68 per cent increase in domestic sales at 48,259 vehicles in August as against 41,717 vehicles sold in the same month last year.
The company's release said that the total sales in August this year stood at 51,855 vehicles, including 3,596 units of exports.
Sales of Maruti 800 (A1 segment) dipped to 6,425 units in August, down 9.3 per cent from 7,084 units sold during the same month in 2005. The sales in the domestic A2 segment (comprising Alto, WagonR, Zen and Swift) grew 22.2 per cent to 32,466 units as compared to 26,558 units in August 2005, while sales in the A3 segment (Baleno and Esteem) rose by 14.6 per cent to 2,837 units as against 2,475 units sold last year in August.
Earlier this year, Maruti had announced the setting up of a new plant with an initial capacity of 1,00,000 automobiles a year, which could be scaled up to 2,50,000 a year, raising the eventual capacity to 8,80,000.
