Lt Gen T Mathew is New Adjutant General of Army

New Delhi, Sept 1 (UNI) In key appointments at the Army Headquarters here, Lt Gen Thomas Mathew today took over as Adjutant General of the Army and Lt Gen Arvind Mahajan assumed charge as Director General of the Corps of Electrical&Mechanical Engineers (EME).

Also today, Lt Gen IJ Koshy took charge as Director General - Ceremonial, Welfare and Discipline (CWD) of the Indian Army.

A former GOC of the prestigeous Delhi Area, Lt Gen Mathew -- in his new appointment as a Principal Staff Officer to the Army Chief -- will be responsible for overseeing various extremely important functions of the Indian Army which affect each and every Army personnel, serving or retired.

These relate, among others, to manpower requirements, service conditions, recruitment, discipline, vigilance, ceremonial functions, welfare, military justice, health services, group insurance, education, welfare housing projects and rehabilitation of personnel and widows and placements of retiring personnel.

Lt Gen Mathew was hitherto GOC of the Siliguri-based 33 Corps while Lt Gen Mahajan was Commandant of Military College of EME.

Lt Gen Koshy, who is from Artillery, was till recently General Manager and Chairman of the Canteen Stores Department (CSD) at Mumbai. He assumes the present appointment on promotion.
