Kumaraswamy condemns UPA Govt's 'dual' stand on border row

Kollur, Karnataka, Sep 1 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today condemned the Union Government's reported move to withdraw the affidavit filed by it in the Supreme Court on the border dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka.

''This is nothing but a dual stand. The UPA Government has decided to withdraw the affidavit, bowing to pressure from the Maharashtra politicians, as the earlier affidavit was against the interests of the Congress-ruled State,'' he alleged.

Speaking to reporters in this temple town, Mr Kumaraswamy said he had received a fax message about the Centre's decision, which amounted to betrayal of the people of Karnataka.

On the Andhra Pradesh Government's decision to approach the Apex Court on the interim award of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal on sharing of excess water, he said the Government was discussing the issue with legal experts and it was ready to take the fight to the Supreme Court.

The Chief Minister said the Government would soon initiate steps to tackle the growing naxal activities in some districts of the State. The police and other departments were finalising a strategy.
