HSBC decided to invest Rs 50 crores in Bengal for further growth

Kolkata, Sept 01 (UNI) Close on the heels of a number of major industries, leading financial multi-national HSBC today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the West Bengal government for setting up a new business centre in the city at a cost of Rs 50 crores.

West Bengal information Technology Secretary Siddharth signed the agreement on behalf of the state governnment, while HSBC country chief R Fannard did so for the multinational company at a simple ceremony in presence of IT minister Debesh Das and Chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee at the later's Writers' Building Chamber here today.

Later speaking to newsmen Dr Das said though HSBC had already set up a major outsourcing centre in the city employing nearly 1,000 people, the new centre on about 3.5 acre of land at Nonadanga in the Rajarhat IT hub with an investmwent of Rs 50 crores,when come up was expected to generate about 2,000 more employment for IT professionals.

He also described the tie-up as HSBC's renewed confidence in the state's favourable investment scenario which had also attracted many other renowened corporate houses in private sectorwith considerable investment proposals.
