GSU threatens to lauch fresh agitation in Meghalaya
Shillong, Sep 1 (UNI) The Garo Students' Union (GSU) today threatened the Meghalaya government of launching a fresh agitation in Garo Hills, if the government failed to remove Justice (Retd) D N Baruah from heading a probe into last year's September 30 firing incident in Williamnagar.
Five people, including a woman, died in the police-firing incident.
The GSU and NCP MP Purno A Sangma have alleged that the Baruah Commission of Enquiry was ''biased'' while conducting the probe.
In this regard, the GSU had already launched a two-day Non-Cooperation Movement which ended today, to pressurise the Rymbai led government to remove the retired Justice from heading the probe.
''If the Government fails to respond to our demand by tomorrow we will launch a more severe form of agitation,'' GSU Eastern Zone Unit Publicity Secretary Apu Marak said.
Mr Marak said the student's body would also oppose tooth and nail, the government's decision to shift the Enquiry commission to Shillong on security ground.
