Dramatics to shape managers in IIM-C
Kolkata, Sep 1 (UNI) Theatre could find a more permanent way in shaping up the new-era managers at Indian Institute of Management -Calcutta (IIM-C) as renowned drama group Nandikar completed a very succesful session to this end.
The premier B-school in the country just completed a three-day session with one of the best known theatre groups in the country Nandikar to teach its students some of the basic tenets of management.
Led by doyen of group theatre in modern Bengal Rudraprasad Sengupta, Nandikar took the students on a ride into the world of 'artistry' through different modules that went beyond solving classroom problems and explored the intricacies, rhythm and divergence of human reactions during interaction.
''We taught them about the journey of an individual amidst a collective,'' Rudraprasad Sengupta told UNI.
''The three day session aimed not only to convert the die-hard managers and leaders of future into a better understanding and open individual, but also have a perspective towards life with relation to himself and his society or environmnet,'' he said.
Mr Sengupta mused somewhat lost in his thoughts, ''We have done module programmes with Murugappa Group of Industries down South and with IIT Kharagpur. But there the focus was on the art of living, atributes that make your life. Here the focus was on concentration, imagination and emotion in a journey through theatre.'' ''Here theatre acted as a catalyst to help them explore any human situation and humanise the process of management in order to boost the needs of today,'' he said.
''It was fabulous to see so many students singing 'raga malkosh' at the same time or responding to a violin in different manner. The IIM-C administration were so impressed that they said were planning to have a more permanent way to involve us in their HRD stream,'' Sengupta said.
