Shillong, Sep 1 (UNI) The Border Security Force have apprehended 1,079 illegal migrants from Bangladesh entering India this year.

The BSF also claimed that the inflow of Bangladeshi nationals have ''drastically declined'' this time due to the fencing of the porous Indo-Bangla border.

S K Dutta, the BSF Inspector General in-charge for Tripura Cachar and Mizoram Frontier, said this year 681 Bangladeshi nationals were nabbed while entering inside the Indian territory illegally.

However, Mr Dutta said that inflow of Bangladeshi nationals have drastically declined due to fencing.

Of the 856 km Tripura's border with Bangladesh, Mr Dutta said, 618 Km of the border had been fenced.

Mr J P Sinha, the BSF Inspector General in-charge Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland Frontier, said from January 1 upto August 28, 398 Bangladeshi nationals were caught and 51 of them were later handed over to Bangladesh Rifles.

Mr Sinha said the BSF had also expressed its concern to the BDR on the presence of illegal Bangladesh nationals in the country.

He said the BSF had urged the BDR to take effective and determined measures to check the inflow of Bangladeshi nationals in India.
