Mysore, Sep 1 (UNI) Karnataka Health Minister R Ashok today announced that a Bill will be introduced in the next session of the Legislature, making it mandatory for post graduate medicos to serve for two years in Government hospitals after completing their course.

Addressing mediapersons after inspecting various hospitals here, he said the Bill would cover those joining PG courses from the next academic year. Once the new rules come into effect, the dearth of specialists in GHs would be overcome as nearly 25 per cent of the hopitals in the taluk level across the State were facing shortage of specialists. Moreover, the Government was spending Rs 15 to 20 lakh on each student under the Government's free seat category.

Stating that there were 5,000 quacks in the State, Mr Ashok said instructions have been given to the Deputy Commissioners to take necessary steps and initiate action against such people.

He said the Government had spent Rs 11.40 crore for the treatment of nearly four lakh chikungunya patients in the State and claimed that nearly 95 per cent of them had been cured.
