Allahabad, Sep 1 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court today directed to maintain the status quo with regard to admission and re-counselling for remaining seats in engineering colleges under Uttar Pradesh State Engineering Admission Test (UPSEAT) for the academic year 2006-07.

The order was passed by Justice S N Srivastava on a writ petition filed by Welfare Association of Self Finance Institutes, Noida -- a body of private engineering colleges.

The association moved the court alleging the UP government was interfering with management quota, which could not be permitted.

While hearing the writ petition, an application was moved by Megha Singh of Allahabad, in which she alleged as per electronic media report admission in engineering colleges at Noida and Ghaziabad were being taken on capitation/donation of Rs one lakh to 5 lakh. She demanded an inquiry in this regard.

After hearing, the court passed the interim order fixing September 5.
