Youth jumps to death in pond fearing police action

Jaunpur, Aug 31: A man, trying to escape from police custody by jumping in a pond, drowned in Saraikhwaja area of the district.

Official sources yesterday said Akhtar of Khalilpur village jumped in the pond, when cops arrived on Tuesday to take him to police station in a case of domestic violence.

A police constable also tried to rescue him, but Akhtar had drowned till then.

Meanwhile, Police Superintendent Sacchi Ghildiyal visited the spot yesterday and assured action against the guilty cops.

The body had been sent for autopsy.
