Srinivasulu praisesTripura for tribal welfare schemes
Agartala, Aug 31 (UNI) Member of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes Welfare Buduru Srinivasulu has praised the Tripura government for undertaking schemes for the development of tribals.
Mr Srinivasulu, who arrived here on Tuesday, visited various project sites in the tribal dominated areas and praised the government for its initiative in bettering the lot of tribals. He is in Tripura to review the projects undertaken by the state government.
Speaking at a cultural programme organised by the Tribal Research Centre last evening, Mr Srinivasulu said he had visited many tribal dominated areas, specially rubber plantation sites, and expressed satisfaction over the work of the tribal welfare department.
He also assured that he would submit a proposal to the Centre for allocation of funds aimed at development of tribal culture in the state. He appealed to the state as well as the Centre to take steps to bring down the number of dropouts of tribal students in educational institutions.
Mr Srinivasulu also visited the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) headquarters at Khumulwng, about 25 km from here. He held meetings with the executive members and other departmental heads. He requested the TTAADC authorities to compile a statistical figure in all the tribal related departments to assess the developmental activities.
Various tribal based political parties, including the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura, Tribal Cell of the Congress and Tribal Karmachari Union called on him and submitted memorandum in support of their charter of demands.
