Lalu demands Rs 5 lakh as compensation to victims

Patna, Aug 31 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad demanded Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia payment for all the bereaved families of the boat tragedy in which 32 people met their watery grave today.

After visiting the spot, Mr Prasad held the state government responsible for the tragedy and asked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to pay Rs five lakh compensation.

He also asked the state government to construct pucca houses for the families of the victims under Indira Awas Yojana.

Mr Yadav asked the government to expedite the rescue operations to save the survivors and fish out the bodies.

He further said if the state government was unable to pay the ex-gratia of Rs five lakh it should recommend to the Centre for the same.
