Govt committed to provide drugs at affordable rates to poor: Paswan

Pune, Aug 31 (UNI) Union Minister Chemicals and Fertilisers Ram Vilas Paswan said the government was committed to providing drugs at affordable rates to the poor.

The Minister was speaking at the launch of the first generation Antiretroviral drugs for HIV/AIDS patients by Hindustan Antibiotics ltd (HAL) Antibiotics ltd.

The Minister said the government will start the health insurance scheme for the poor and BPL patients who will be issued cards for free treatment at specific hospitals in various states at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore.

Further, new norms will be announced and MRP of drugs including local taxes will have to be written on medicines with expiry and manufacture dates along with other bilingual details in Hindi and English. With this, some drugs costing Rs 37 may come much cheaper, the minister said.
