Five killed, five injured in road accidents in HP

Shimla, Aug 31 (UNI) At least five people were killed and an equal number injured in two separate road accidents in this district of Himachal Pradesh during the last 24 hours, police sources today said.

Two people were killed and another seriously injured after their apple-laden tempo fell into a gorge at Bethal, about 110 km, from here in the district, early today.

The sources said while the driver, identified as Dewan Singh, was killed at the spot another person, identified as Rakesh Kumar, died on way to Rampur hospital where he was being taken after the accident.

Another person injured in the accident and identified as Kali Charan has been admitted to a government hospital at Rampur where the doctors described his condition as critical.

The sources said the cause of the accident, which occurred at about 0600 hrs, was not yet known, adding that a case has been registered and investigations were on.

In another accident in the district, three people were killed and four injured after their Sumo fell into a gorge near Sunni, about 42 kms from here, yesterday evening.

The sources said the injured were referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) here.

The dead have been identified as Bessa Dass, Paras Ram and Yog Raj and their bodies have been handed over to the relatives after post mortem examination, the sources said.

The souces said a case has been registered and investigations were on.
