20 feared drowned in boat tragedy in Ganga

Hajipur (Bihar), Aug 31: At least 20 people were feared drowned when a boat capsized midstream in river Ganga near Jafrabad Ghat under Raghopur Police station area in Vaishali district today.

District magistrate Lalan Singh said here that the boat ferrying 20 people from Maroofganj of Patna district to Jafrabad lost balance due to the high current of water and capsized.

5 people swam to safety he said.

He said that divers have been pressed into service to fish out the bodies. Senior police and administrative officers were monitoring the rescue operation.
